Meet Hazel

Hello! My name is Hazel Terry and I have been performing marriage ceremonies since 2017 and love my job! I enjoy meeting new people and hearing each couple’s unique love story and creating fun and happy occasions for them and of course for everyone else involved on the day.

I am a fully trained Marriage Celebrant holding a CERT IV in celebrancy after qualifying at The Celebrants Training College Australia. I relocated back to London in 2019 and I am now performing wedding ceremonies for couples across the UK.

With over 15 years' experience working in the events and hospitality industry and previous wedding planner for both Intercontinental Hotel and Sydney Opera House I am not only confident in producing and hosting your beautiful wedding ceremony but also bringing my industry expertise and knowledge to assist with your most special day.

I am a Celebrants Collective Member UK and insured by The Institute of Professional Celebrants UK who provide my Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurances. I have a very professional manner and will work with you to create a unique ceremony that will make you smile when you remember it for years to come.

The Process in a nutshell

Find and confirm your chosen wedding venue, once you have done this you can contact me to hold your chosen wedding date and I will work with you to create your personalised ceremony. To be legally married in the UK you must book a time with your local registry office to complete your ‘Intent to Marry’. Once you have BOTH done this you can then book your signing day at a registry office of your choice (it does not have to be your local one).

All couples are different, therefore I provide a bespoke package to fit your requirements. My fee to perform as your marriage celebrant is £595.00 inclusive of:

  • Initial obligation free meeting via Zoom (or in person if local)

  • Guidance on booking your Intent to Marry appointment;

  • Three private appointments including a rehearsal via zoom or at a mutually suitable location;

  • Unlimited phone and email contact;

  • Preparation of an individual ceremony;

  • My travel to your ceremony location;

  • A printed copy of the written ceremony script, vows and any readings;

  • Coordinating and performing your ceremony on your wedding day;

  • Use of high quality P.A system (if required and the venue does not supply one);

  • Provision of Presentation Marriage Certificate;

  • Lots of tips and tricks along the way!

Getting married outside of the home counties UK? Yes I travel! Any additional travel costs will be highlighted within your initial proposal.

Services

Wedding Ceremony.

Whether it be an intimate gathering or a large celebration, my job is to help you create the ceremony that best suits you. I will listen to your story and weave this through the proceedings to make the ceremony special to you and keep your guests engaged throughout. As well as this I can introduce you to some of the wonderful suppliers I have worked with previously, who I trust to provide you with the service you require.

Renewal of Vows.

Reaffirm your feelings for one another in front of all of your nearest and dearest with a ceremony to mark a special anniversary. You can embrace who you are today and also tell your unique story of the journey you have been on together and even include elements from your original wedding day. Whether it is new friends in attendance or people you go WAY back with, this is a lovely occasion to bring everyone together and celebrate you!

Destination Wedding.

You may choose to have a ceremony overseas. Whether It be exotic Northern Cyprus amongst the olive trees, an Italian Plaza or a beach in Spain we can work together to create your perfect ceremony for the surroundings and to make all your guests who have travelled overseas to feel included. You will still need to lodge your intent to marry at your local registry office and sign the legal paperwork at a later date and then we are free to create your personalised ceremony overseas. Your destination ceremony fee will include the travel and accommodation cost which we agree together at time of booking.

Hazel was amazing to work with throughout the whole wedding process.
you need the right person to deal with and Hazel was perfect, a truly lovely person. I loved emailing and calling Hazel for her thoughts and suggestions on Wedding ideas, I had plenty and she was always happy to give me her opinions which I took on board. Hazel was a pleasure to work with from start to finish and I will miss dealing with her.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Celebrant and a Registrar?

  • A registrar is allocated to you by the local council to your chosen wedding venue (should it be a licensed wedding venue). You will be sent a service script to choose your ceremony from which is pretty formal and regimented and while it may allow you to add readings but doesn’t leave much room for personalisation or to add material with religious or spiritual content. Furthermore, many couples do not get to meet their registrar prior to their wedding day, meaning they haven’t had that chance to get to know you both and also need to work to set time slot allocations as they perform several weddings on the same day.

  • As a celebrant I will work with you from the first appointment through to the end of your ceremony, coordinating the proceedings and sharing your love story with your guests in attendance. Working with a professional celebrant allows you to create a ceremony that best reflects you as a couple and can be held at any time of day in any location, with the legal paperwork signed separately as mentioned below. I will spend time to get to know you at our meetings and provide you with a couples questionnaire to complete before I begin working on your bespoke wedding ceremony script. I like to find out your interests, beliefs and wishes as a couple for your future together.

So what sort of thing can we include in our Celebrant led ceremony?

  • There are no restrictions! (…within reason ;-p) Day or night, indoors or outdoors, up a mountain, on a beach or in your living room at home, we will work together to create the perfect ceremony for you. Upon booking my service I will gift you with a booklet that I have created full of sample ceremonies to help guide you through what you might like included for your own ceremony.

    A popular ceremony choice is to follow a traditional structure with a welcome, introduction, vows, ring exchange and a kiss but the fun part is adding in all of your own personalisation around this such as readings, couple’s story, rituals and family traditions. I like to talk through ideas with you and provide suggestions, such as a time capsule box, unity candle, sand blending or even mixing a cocktail (as one of my couples did) but ultimately it is up to you. I also like to help my couples to write their own personalised vows if they wish to.

Is the ceremony Legally binding?

  • A celebrant led wedding ceremony is personalised, symbolic and special but not legally binding. Your guests in attendance will be non the wiser unless you tell them and to be honest with you i’ve had so many couples tell me that since their wedding friends and family have asked them how the celebrant knew them so well as the ceremony was perfect for them!

  • For a couple to legally marry in the UK they must register their notice of intent to marry with their local register office a minimum of two weeks prior to their chosen marriage date and no more than one year prior. Many couples (including myself and my now husband) choose to sign the legal paper work in the weeks leading up to their wedding so that they are legally married once the celebrant led ceremony and their wedding day takes place. You can do this at any chosen UK registerary office of your choice and it is called a statuary ceremony and costs around £45 per person. You will need to bring along two witnesses with you and its a lovely simple legally binding ceremony within the registrars office.

I have always believed that ALL love should be celebrated and each person should be entitled to express their love to their loved one in a ceremony.

I love working with ALL couples and enjoy meeting all personality types, this is our chance to tell your unique love story to all your friends and family.
